went to Brunei for the first time over the weekend with my dad and younger brother. my dad had work related stuffs to do there and suggested that we follow him - to visit our relatives in Brunei (my dad's niece and her family). they showed us around Brunei and fed us with lots and lots of food. 2 words: generous hospitality :)

...and plus, my dad said i'd get to take tonnes of photographs.

the photo was taken at The Empire Resort during our second (which was also our last) day in Brunei, near the swimming pool and miniature lake where people could canoe. all in all, the scenery was great! i'll be posting a few more photographs from the trip soon. yesiree bob.

...continuing from the sunrise blog entry: Right after KKIA, aunt Pauline brought me to Sutera Harbour Resort. she thought i would have a lot more to photograph there... and she was right! It was bright and early- still 6ish in the morning, still cool and slightly windy. guess the slight sea breeze may have something to do with it.

Anyway, the first photograph is a water reflection of several boat masts (hope that's the correct term) at the harbour, which is my favourite photo of the day. it looks almost like an oil painting, a little abstract. oh and there's another photograph (of the boats) in a separate blog post, so go check that one out too :)

Today i got up really early to catch the sunrise, so awesome! all thanks to aunt Pauline and uncle Robert for taking me to KKIA with them to see it! It was around 6ish am at the time, left the house at about 5.15am. I managed to stitch a few photographs together to get a couple panoramas of the landscape. Plus, today is manual mode day so it was just a little toggling between the camera's aperture value and the shutter speed, and maybe the white balance from time to time. The panoramic photo in the previous post was taken much earlier than the one above. Hence the darker hues.

p.s. For non Sabahans, the mountain with the highest peak in the photo is Mt Kinabalu oh yeah.

IKEA's Princess cake dessert. That green cover had me fooled, did not anticipate the large layer of cream underneath it...and by large, i mean the cream portion takes up about 40% of the entire volume lol. yes you heard me right.

So what's in it?
The inside consists of 2 major layers: cream and sponge separated by a thin layer of jam.

A short film i made for an assignment, documenting my journey :) i've uploaded it to my vimeo account, feel free to add me as a contact if you've got one yourself. i forgot to post the video here a while back. since filmography and photography are both sorta similiar... so i thought why not share it here. I didn't use a tripod while recording the sub videos, so that explains the shakey bits of the video, hope it's not nauseating! so if you've got 4:15mins to spare, go check it out!

...and in case you're wondering, i used Adobe Premiere Pro for the editing and etc.

...which explains the 2 photographs for today's blogpost. i kinda miss having tuaran mee...it has been quite a while since i last had it, since it's a Sabahan dish and hence you can't get it anywhere else...so there i was eating it (taking photos before i did so lol). Being a (lacto-ovo) vegetarian, i had the fried noodles with just vegetables and egg.

...and of course iced lemonade. this close-up shot reminds me of a nightclub for some reason, a cool one lol :D

At Coffee Club for desserts with studio mates during a night out after our final crit on Thursday. The bottom 2 photos are of the Chocolate muddy mudpie - the dessert that i was pretty psyched (haha psyched?) to try after my friend told me about it. The verdict? was pretty good :d haha

just fyi, the 3 layers are chocolate+coffee ice cream with an oreo base...and with a good drizzle of chocolate syrup of course!

It's got a qwerty keypad, so it makes texting a little faster! i'm still trying to adapt to it... trying not to press the same button twice to get a specific alphabet. Other than that, it's great! it has almost all the features you'd want in a phone...and it's affordable!

Well, i was flipping through a book (Harvard Studio Works) and decided to sketch one of the photos in it. i chose that particular photo of an academician simply because it was the clearest of them all lol.

Spent the entire weekend at the studio... drawing, drawing and drawing. It's oficial, the studio's my first home, hostel 2nd. As a matter of fact, i'm in the studio right now as i'm typing this. lol oh well. The photo of the spiral bound sketch book and tool box, however, wasn't taken in the studio, was back at the hostel. i know it's a pretty simple photo...but sometimes, less is more, no? ;) (...like homework)

Went to a particular spot in Chinatown yesterday...to document a site for my assignment ...and took some unrelated photographs for fun! I was initially holding the stem of the weed to keep it still because it was swaying...due to the wind. Then...thought i might as well just take one with my hand in the frame ;)

After googling the name of this Chinese musical instrument, it is called Yangqin. If you've been to Pavilion, you would've noticed that there'd be a musician within the area where design furnitures and art paintings are sold. I'll be posting up another photo...which is sort of related to this one in my next post. :)

This is a night landscape view (from way up high) at Genting last month. My friends decided to pull over to admire the view...and i just wanna add that... being able to see it from where we were standing was amazing!

The image quality is grainy because i increased the ISO to 3200 i believe since i'm holding the camera while shooting. lol yes that much in order to get a quite steady shot in the dark. it was worth it :) basically, the higher the ISO, the grainier your image will look.

btw can you spot the Petronas Twin Towers? :)

I was looking through folders of photographs in my laptop...and look at what i've found! more photos of my cat, Browny. you know what, i miss her...

I've actually posted up a photo of her before, January (click here to view it) this year. go ahead and check it out! that one was taken with my sister's Sony T-30 camera and was then edited with Photoshop. However, these 2 photos you see here were taken with the 500D while i was back home in KK for the new year. After looking at 3 of her photos, don't you think she's pretty good at modelling? lol

These photos were taken earlier last month...during a trip to Genting with friends. i had an awesome time hanging out with them :)

One of my friends' mom owns a Vietnamese restaurant there... and there's an extended stall that sells Vietnamese spring rolls. To sort of explain the photographs, the lady was opening the container (for the dipping sauce) to add some shredded carrots and stuffs...and yea there i was snapping away like a fool (well, just a couple of shots...so it's cool lol). what i like about these photos are the vibrant contrasting colours in them...the red and turquoise.

Nope, not exactly ear ears... but earphones! i had to get a new pair after learning that my former earphones only worked for the left ear. Went to Low Yat the other day to get them. It's a Sony... it's really clear despite being one of the cheaper ones in the large pool of earphones to choose from :) most definitely worth the $! i'm listening to some tunes with them now :) hope you guys like the photos!

A New Look

You know how Blogger has a new template designer and phased out all the old ones... I thought i should try it and apply it to my photo blog...get rid of the old one. I still wanted the plain white layout. And after going through a few templates and modifying them to get that look... finally got the right one that allows me to completely turn it to white without permanent borders or drop shadows. The new template allows me to post up large photos since the width of the post is adjustable. How cool is that!

In addition to the new template, I made a new banner to go with the new template! The photo in the banner was taken in Penang.

Just for fun, i made a Taste-O-Metre. i might use it for my food blog posts. :) Maybe.

I've been thinking about doing a food blog for a while and i thought i could start today! My food photographs are accumulating and i can't wait to share them here for you guys to see :D (...and probably drool at lol)

Today's post will be all about Jap-uh-nese's food. (Haha Jap's). I had dinner with my sister and her friend at KLCC's food court a couple of weeks ago. The first photograph is of my sister's food - Jap meal (hahaha Jap meal) which included rice, salad, tofu cube and beef.

I bought mine from the "House of Bento" booth and asked for a vegetarian version of the original dish (basically tofu without the meat stuff). Just to describe, briefly, what's in the photograph. There's rice, tofu, tempura (fried lady's finger and eggplant) and finely sliced cabbages dressed with what seems to be thousand island dressing. Oh and the pink stuff's pickled ginger (at the centre in the 2nd photograph).

Well, i do live in a country where eating is just as important/frequent as breathing :) I took this photograph during my trip back to KK in April - during dinner time to be more specific. These photographs were taken during my trip to KK for Cheng Beng... at an old shop in Tuaran that sells fruits & flowers. So i guess the shopkeeper is a flofruitist? Sounds like a contagious disease lol. Anyway, my family & i went there to get some of these pretties for "Cheng Beng" - the white little flowers, pink roses & light yellow ones too (see last photo).

Here's an update to prevent my blog from dying (lol). It's been wayyyyy too long! i've been extremely busy lately with Uni work stuffs. Anyway, these are photos of food (lol well duh) while i was back in Kota Kinabalu. I'll be going back this weekend for "Cheng Beng". If i'm lucky, i'll prolly get to eat somemore of those stuffs. :) Economy fried meehoon would be great! (showered with some good ol' vinegary chilli sauce...yum!)

Chinese Acrobats

To give my food blog posts a break, Gymnasts & acrobats from China. Well at least I reckon they're from China. There was a string of performaces by different groups/pairs of gymnasts which took place in 1Borneo during the CNY week. They were all amazing. Everyone was impressed by their strength and flexibility. I manage to capture a few moves for this group act. I did some tweaking to the photos because the red carpet had tape on it... so now it looks a little more clean. They're a little distracting so I had have them removed from the photographs with Photoshop.

For my next blog post, I will continue with more photographs of food (lol) I had while I was back in KK during the CNY period - What I had for breakfast, lunch or/and dinner... all of that good stuffs. 'til then, I hope you like these!

Food! II

This blog post will also be about food... but this time, raw ingredients. My family and I had henghua pah mee for dinner at home on the 2nd day Chinese New Year... I think. It's a noodle soup dish with mushrooms, vegetables, seaweed etc. I had my vegetarian version while family had theirs with the usual meat stuff. The thought of taking a photograph of the noodle dish didn't come to mind at the time for some reason lol. The first 2 photographs were taken in the kitchen.

The pic of tubers were taken much earlier in a supermarket while my family did some grocery shopping a few days ago. My little brother said that I should bring my camera with me everywhere as if it were my phone. That was actually pretty enlightening. Well, I'll have you know that I've been bringing it out with me for the past few days. At least my blog will be constantly updated this week. Hehehe...

Photographs of food have pretty much accumulated in my photo folder. So I'll upload some of them next. More and more food!

Today's blog post will be dedicated to FOOD! In this blog post, you'll see photos of what I had for the first day of CNY. In the morning, my family and I had our breakfast at an aunt's house for a good ol' vegetarian mee sua as usual... along with a cup (or two) of warm chinese tea.

For tea time, we went to a bakery since most of the kopitiams are closed for the day. I had an egg burger with iced milo. My brothers and sister had some pastries etc. Lots of mayo and tomato sauce... but mostly mayo, in the burger that is.

Sadly, there are no photos for dinner cuz I didn't take any at the time.

That's all for now. I'll post up more food photos soon. Prolly raw ingredient and stuffs.

Hahaha the last photo isn't in my garden. It's opposite the house. Looks like a country farm or something doesn't it?

The Garden

I went out of the house to the garden this time to take some photographs. It was about 5.30-ish in the afternoon - when it was neither scorching hot nor too bright. Just walked around the compound to photograph plants and stuffs until it was about 6.15pm as it was getting darker and darker every minute afterwards. The sun sets earlier in east Malaysia, by 7pm the sky was pitch black...or really really really really-----really really dark blue.

All was good except for the limiting close-up distance between my camera and the subject. It get's a little irritating. Manual focusing does help a little tho at some instances when doing close-ups. I guess that's where macro lenses come into the picture I guess. :|

Anyway, here are some of the photographs taken this afternoon.

I have a lot more photographs to show but enough for today's post. I'll continue uploading the rest here tomorrow or the day after...er prolly tomorrow :) So do come back to see them! Thanks for dropping by!

A Tiny dSLR Debut

Today... well since it has already passed 12.00 am... it would be yesterday, I felt like taking some photos. So I headed to my kitchen to look for stuffs to photograph, decided to grab a couple of napkins and utensils and voila! They're all pretty simple looking... just how I like 'em to be. :)

It has been only been recent that I got myself a dSLR camera and I'm very happy with it. I hope to take some more good 'ol photos with it and share them with you guys here. I'm guessing I'll be using the dSLR camera a lot more now to take my photographs than with my sister's point-and-shoot camera.

Is it me or is the number of people owning dSLR cameras growing rapidly. They're everywhere! Haha

Yet Another Trip to Singapore

I had a solo flight a few days ago to Singapore to collect my birth extract since I had only 3 months to do so before they cancel? them. It was only a day trip but it felt longer than that. Maybe because I didn't really know what to do there while I wait for my evening flight. Travelling solo is a norm for me... but this was my first time travelling solo for an international flight. I was really tired at the same time due to lack of sleep the night before. I find myself looking for any bench in sight to sit on...my legs were way tired from all the walking I did. During my day trip, I went to Bugis, Orchard, Somerset and some other streets - I can't remember their names right now.

After sending 5 text messages with my Star Hub number, I recieved a text tellin me that I could send 50 text messages for free on that day. How cool was that :) I definitely love the mrt system in Singapore, very accessible and was pretty easy to use to go places. Best part of it was the fact that it's connected to Changi Airport! I took some photos while I was there. Hope you guys like them.

If you look closely at both photos, you'll notice that the leaves of the trees have yellowed since then.

I had to go back to this place cuz it brings back some good memories. You can find all sorts of vegetarian food in Fortune Centre. I should have thought about eating there for lunch/dinner. I forgot it was just walking distance from where Bugis Street was.

These monkey photos were taken when I was in Langkawi with friends. I cropped the first photo, hence it's a little grainy if you do see the actual size of it. They're our cool primates :)

Here's a photo of a pet stray cat of mine. I've known her since she was a tiny little kitten. Saw her for the first time when she crossed the road heading towards my home. One of the smartest cats I know, Browny. Will be seeing her again soon for CNY when I head back to my hometown I hope. This is one of my favourite photos. I think she was prolly looking around to see if there were other cats nearby at the time. She wants to protect her food, you know. Lol.

Oh and I've made some minor changes to the appearance this blog. The changes are pretty subtle, so it's ok if you didn't notice after reading this lol. I think it looks pretty neat right now. I made a little something on the right - The green icon which is suppose to mimic the control button on the Sony DSC T-30 camera that I'm currently using.

Bukit Bintang Street

Have you guys seen this purple man with a spray-painted glittery purple headwear at the Bukit Bintang walk way? I was walking the other day with my lil bro and we saw him sitting on his red chair...and well, staying still. On his purple tin box and wooden sign, it says RM 2.00 or 3.00 to have a photo with him...something like that. I have to say, it is pretty darn neat...

Hahaha and people were stopping to look and stuff... most of them had this wtf look on their faces. Prolly trying to figure out if it was a statue or a person too.

Oh there's another guy who was in silver just a few feet away from Pavilion. He even spray painted his face silver since he wasn't wearing a mask or headwear. All glittery and stuff just like the man in purple. Unlike the purple dude, he was standing up. I don't have a photo to show tho :/

...and most of all, Happy New year, folks!

I wonder what other colours will they be going for in the year 2010.

Garlics

Hey people!

Time for another update. The other day I was pluckin' some garlics and what was left was the base that held those ''sub-garlics'' together. Lol I can't think of what to call them. It was very interesting-looking, very cool with the stalk and all. So I thought why not take a few shots of it. Some parts of it look very alien-pod-like.

The 1st three photos are taken with just the light yellow incandescent lights (for the lighting that is) in my room which gives them the warm orange colour.

These 2 photos are taken with my study lamp. Hence the cream white colour of the onion - which technically is the actual colour of the garlic base with a little bit of stripes. The blue colour at the background comes from the blue objects that were around the garlic base - my pencil case, stapler etc.

Hey people,

These photos were taken a couple of weeks ago or so in college (which is at Sunway University College). The flowers were taken in the morning. Looking through my photos, I realised that most of them are plants... which is alright. I guess it's they are easiest to work with and they stay still. Lol. Nah that's not the main reason. Although... (haha...kidding). After my A2 examinations, I'll prolly take photos of more varied? subjects. But for now, plants are the bomb.

Little Weeds (Part II)

As promised, this is a continuation of the Little Weeds post. Weeds are pretty darn unique-lookin' aren't they. It's just that most of us haven't really looked at it close enough and admire it a little. I hope I did the weeds proud with these. :) Couple of them are not really sharp as they were taken when the winds were blowing. Lol that's not too smart but it's alright I guess.

This one is actually pretty tiny. The diameter of the flower is prolly equal to that of a 5 cent coin or less.

Little Weeds

Hey people,

Time for another photo! Right, this time I went outside (the little porch area) and took a few snaps. So I was looking for things to shoot and then I decided to take photos of WEEDS, yes weeds. Basically, just picture someone taking a photo of a weed, sitting on the ground, having the camera so close to the ground. Lol. Yeap that's what I did. Some of the things I took looked pretty cool though. Weeds have never been so... interesting. :) I'll show you a couple of them first and save the rest for another day.

This one is a purple flower weed. We see these everywhere.

If only I knew what the names of these weeds are. That'd be cool.

Hey people, if you're reading this, I'm probably pretty glad that you're taking the time to visit my little photography blog o' mine. Truth be told, I'm all new to this... Photography...thing.
